ODMA Board hereby announces initiatives have been implemented to honour prior Board Chair and Director, Richard Grills, who sadly passed away in 2022, and who is deeply missed by so many in the optical industry.
Annual prizes have been set up with two Universities that Richard worked closely with. ODMA felt it was a very fitting way to honour Richard into the future by rewarding graduate achievements in low vision and orthoptics, topics that Richard was so passionate about.
As we approach Myopia Awareness Week, taking place from 22-26 May, the eye health sector is being urged to ensure myopia management is an essential part of child eye health. With the prevalence of myopia increasing rapidly and projections indicating that by 2050, 50% of the world’s population will be myopic, with uncorrected myopia and high myopia a leading cause of blindness worldwide, the topic is of critical importance to the optometric profession.
According to recent research, dry eye disease is estimated to affect more than 4 million Australians (up to 20% of the adult population). Yet while dry eye disease is such a prevalent condition, many Australians haven’t actually heard of the disease… including many of those who suffer from Dry Eye symptoms.
