The Optical Distributors & Manufacturers Association (ODMA) is the peak body of Wholesalers, Manufacturers and Importers of optical products in Australia ie prescription spectacle lenses, optical frames, sunglasses, sight testing equipment etc.  Our members constitute the majority of the wholesale optical industry in Australia.  Our mission is to support the Australian optical industry by delivering key programs to grow and protect the market.

ODMA is not just ODMAFAIR.  ODMA also:

• Undertakes research for the benefit of the whole optical industry
• Provides eyecare program funding
• Is a Vision 2020 Partner
• Lobbies politically on behalf of the industry
• Represents the industry on standards committees
• Initiates marketing programs to stimulate growth for its members

In November 2008 ODMA launched the Optical Retail Guide (ORG), which was sent to independent practitioners all across Australia.  This guide was designed to provide ideas and information to independent eye-care practitioners and their staff in the areas of marketing, research, education and training.  Each quarter they will receive further updates and articles for inclusion in the ORG.

ODMA hopes the ORG will become a handy quick reference tool for practitioners and their staff to assist them on a daily basis, in the areas of general retailing and staff induction. 

In 2009 ODMA will once again produce the research document, Anaylsis of the Australian Eyewear Industry.  Previous copies of the report (2005 & 2007) are still available at a reduced educed cost: please contact marketing@odma.com.au

Aspects of that information are reproduced in the free booklet Essential Optical Concepts which was mailed to every optical outlet in Australia in April 2006. The content of the booklet is the culmination of research and input from many sources – it is not the opinion of ODMA, rather that of consumers and educators which is being passed on to assist optical retailers in their business.  Additional copies can be obtained from the ODMA secretariat.
